Generation License

The bulk generation licence is for any entity undertaking generation of electricity by a person or company using one or more systems with an aggregate installed capacity that, together with the installed capacity of the person’s affiliates, is at or above the prescribed threshold.” A bulk generation licence is required for all independent power producers (IPPs), as well as for the Utility to operate its own generation assets.

Bulk Generation licences are generation entities over 0.5MW. This licence categories will have three sub-categories to include Utility Scale Bulk Generation, Large-Scale Bulk Generation, and Renewable Energy Bulk Generation. 

  1. Bulk Generation - Class 1 -  Utility Bulk Generation Utility Power Producer or Independent Power Producer (IPP) of electricity that will sell to BELCO Transmission, Distribution and Retail (TD&R) under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Generation will be excess of 25MW. 
  2. Bulk Generation - Class 2 - Large-Scale Bulk Generation (Non-Renewable Energy) Independent Power Producer (IPP) of electricity that will sell to BELCO Transmission, Distribution and Retail (TD&R) under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Generation will be range between 0.5MW- 25MW. 
  3. Bulk Generation - Class 3 - Renewable Bulk Generation (Solar Licence) Independent Power Producer (IPP) of electricity produced by renewable energy technology (i.e. Solar) that will sell to BELCO Transmission, Distribution and Retail (TD&R) under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Generation will be between 0.5MW- 25MW.
